Rasheed Copeland - Azania To DC 2019

Hear My Voice is yet again collaborating with Jonathan Tucker to bring you Washington DC poet Rasheed Copeland live in South Africa as part of the #AzaniaToDC arts exchange. The project will see Rasheed perform and conduct poetry workshops at various venues in Tshwane and Johannesburg between the 14th and 28th July 2019.

The #AzaniaToDC arts exchange is brought to you by Jonathan Tucker in partnership with Hear My Voice and is made possible with funding from the DC Commission Of The Arts And Humanities. The strategic partners include Botaki Ba Afrika, Pick Me Up Poetry, The American Corner Pretoria, Black Labone, The University of Johannesburg, Street Poetry and Spoken Sessions.

Biography

Rasheed Copeland

Rasheed Copeland is a native of Washington, DC. He is the author of The Book of Silence: Manhood As a Pseudoscience (Sergeant Press, 2015) and is a recipient of 2016 and 2017 DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellowship Awards. He placed 2nd in the world at the 2015 Individual World Poetry Slam. He is currently studying English at the undergraduate level at Howard University. His work has been featured in online publications such as Split This Rock , and Public Pool .
